Learning From the Masters: Design Inspiration from Oaxaca’s Finest Painters

March 06, 2014

All rooms need art and Oaxaca, a city of artists, provides endless inspiration.

Three of the most famous Mexican painters—Rufino Tamayo, Francisco Toledo, and Rodolfo Morales—hail from this rugged mountainous state in Mexico’s southwest.  All three have celebrated their Zapotec heritage through their paintings, and have also been instrumental in establishing the city as a center for contemporary art and culture in Mexico. For example, many of the public art institutions were founded, funded, or both by these artists, including the Museum of Oaxacan Painters, the Institute of Graphic Arts, the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Rodolfo Morales Cultural Foundation, and Museo Rufino Tamayo.

Here we virtually hang some of our favorite works by these world-renowned artists in rooms featured in our lookbook from the Oaxaca Collection.
