The Hmong tribe are thought to have originated in central Asia, the area of present-day Mongolia. Having settled in southern China, the Hmong rebelled against government persecution in the 1800s and migrated into the mountainous regions of Northern Vietnam, Burma, Thailand and Laos. Bought directly from the Hmong tribe in the market of Sa Pa, this necklace would have been worn on special occasions.
