Once used to store the elaborate velvet and feathered hats worn by Chinese officials, we were told that this antique hatbox dates back to the late 19th century. Made of leather that’s been lacquered for preservation purposes, the box features an inscribed vellum interior and brass fittings. Malaysia has a very long history with China, and is home to a proud population of Chinese-Malays called Pernakans or Baba-Nyonya.
