When Shankar Narayan returns home after a long absence, he finds that his father, a former businessman, and (more recently) ex-con, has duped an entire town into believing that he’s an oracle by using a few magic tricks he learned in the slammer. Determined to expose the man, Narayan hires a magician named Goga to outsoothe the soothsayer. Once Goga succeeds, however, he is loath to tell everyone that his divine powers are mere magic tricks, too.
