In the case of this hand-carved, hand-painted picture frame, the green thumbs belong to the siblings Vicente and Brisia Hernandez, 3rd generation artisans who’ve been practicing their craft for 40 years. Their workshop is located in San Martín Tilcajete, one of two major centers for alebrije—the fantastically painted folk art sculptures that owe their life to one ill artist’s fever dream.
