• The city’s lineage as a market stretches back to AD 1010, when Lý Thái Tổ founded Hanoi as the capital of the royal dynasty. Trade dominated the city’s Ancient Quarter through the Chinese and French occupations, until the city was ravaged by bombings in the 1960s.
