• On any given day in Malaysia, it is a good bet that the weather report will forecast occasional showers and temperatures between 75 and 89. The first native dwellings along the peninsula were designed with that in mind; raised on stilts to avoid floods and wild animals, they featured verandas and high ceilings, with the island’s abundant supply of timber making it the obvious building material.
