Dyeing has changed a lot since Master Katono’s time, especially in recent years, when a 4th generation Arimatsu dyer named Kuno Tsyoyish introduced electrically-heated dyeing machines. These new contraptions have replaced the customary wooden barrels and dramatically speeded up the dyeing process. Today, the making of shibori is a blend of traditional and modern.
