• Art and Craft from Kanazawa, Japan

While Ohi Toshio might be Kanazawa's most renowned artist, the city is most famous for Kutani porcelain, which has been made here since the 17th century. Kutani is known for its bold designs and five signature colors -- red, yellow, green purple and dark blue. Glazes are made from wood ash, clay and metal oxides, but the exact ingredients are family secrets, passed down from one generation to the next.
