    Debate on the origins of this holey-dough is fierce. While some argue that the chewy obwarzanek are bagels because they’re first boiled and then baked exactly like a bagel, others consider them a cousin of the pretzel, a staple of Jewish bakers before they migrated from Germany to Poland in the Middle Ages.
