• Are obwarzanek pretzels or bagels?

Whatever its origin, gastronomic scholars agree that the first ever mention of the obwarzanek was in 1496 in a decree from Polish King John Albert giving Krakow’s bakers certain rights, while the first mention of the bagel was only in 1610, when the "baigiel" was recommended as a gift for women in childbirth as part of the city “Community Regulations”.
