  After spending a morning bicycling around the ancient pagodas of sprawling Bagan, I found the village near Ananda Temple raging with a buoyant pop-up market to honor the full moon on a Sunday and an Independence Day celebration. I caught this lungyi merchant blissfully napping among his fetching patterns; maybe the revelry of the day had caught up with him or he just needed a reprieve from the afternoon sun.
