Fes, the fiercely beating heart of Morocco is the center of age-old artisan traditions. I like to think that if one is lost in the maze of Medina alleys, you could always find your way, solely guided by the sounds and tempos of the artisans and their tools. I wandered into the woodcarver’s workshop, and was taken by the intimacy of his space, with its beautifully haphazard display of tools, patterns and personal tokens celebrating his traditions and beliefs.
